Little Married FHE

I'm not sure if I have blogged about our family home evenings or not but I will tell you about this one or two. Last week was my week to give the lesson so I went online and searched for newly married fhe lessons. Boy, are those hard to find. There aren't many out there. I have found a couple blogs with ideas. I found one that I thought would be perfect! Elder Scott's talk "Blessings of Eternal Marriage" is a great talk especially for newly weds. You could read it together but I chose to watch it together. I'm more of a visual learner. I posted the video on this post if you wanted to watch it yourself. The blog also suggested to write each other letters and open them in a year, your anniversary, whenever you guys decide on. I really wanted to do this last week but it got pretty long and we had other things to get done as well so this week for Drew's lesson he had us write our letters. We decided to open them the day we get sealed to each other, July 17, 2012, right before we get sealed. I love this idea! I can't wait to see what he wrote. Hope you guys have fun with fhe idea!

Yummy Yummy in my Tummy

If you do not know me that well, I love to bake and cook. Once I got married I became super excited to cook for my husband. It is sometimes hard to cook for just two but we sometimes just take leftovers to work the next day for lunch.

Yesterday I decided to do something with the groud beef that was in the freezer. I was thinking about doing a taco salad or nachos but that is just too overdone I thought so I went online and came across a sloppy joe recipe. I don't usually like sloppy joe's, they just look gross and messy but I thought I would give it a try and I knew Drew would appreciate me making "man food". When he came home and found out I made sloppy joe's he was super excited and asked if I got manwich to make it. I don't even know what that is. He tried my sloppy joe mixture and said that it was the best sloppy joe he had ever had. Woot woot! Great wife points for me :)

Here is the recipe if you want to give it a try. It's so easy and quick. We didn't have hamburger buns so we used hot dog buns. Use whatever you have.

Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (I used garlic salt because we didn't have powder)
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
3/4 cup ketchup
3 teaspoons brown sugar (I added an extra pinch)
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste

Directions
1. In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and onion; drain off liquids.
2. Stir in the garlic powder, mustard, ketchup, and brown sugar; mix thoroughly. Reduce heat, and simmer for 30 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

That's it! Just 2 steps. How easy is that? Super easy! Hope you guys enjoy this recipe.

Kindergarten Days

Oh I just love working at an elementary school. Those kids are just too funny.

Last week one of my kindergartners said, "Mrs. Deanna I'm irritated. Everybody is irritating me". Um the whole class was silent doing their seat work, how could they be irritating him? I asked him what they were doing to irritate him. He replied by saying, "I don't know, they just are". Oh Marcus.

In our class we have the teacher, me, and then another aide that works with a special needs girl in our class. The other aide had a sub on Wednesday and she noticed that I had a ring on my finger and asked if I was engaged. I told her I'm married and the kids heard me say that. The kids then started whispering to each other, "Mrs. Deanna is married!"
I walk over and Justus asks me, "Mrs. Deanna are you married"?
"Yes".
"Who are you married to?"
"My husband".
"What's his name"?
"Drew."
"Do you have kids"?
 "No".
"Are you growing a baby"?
"No I'm not".
Oh Justus. Am I growing a baby? That made me laugh. There are a lot of aides and staff that are having babies so I'm sure she must have guessed that all the aides are growing a baby lol.

I love being in Mrs. Buder's class. She is such a creative teacher. I love having her as an example. This week was bear week. The kids learned about polar, grizzly, black, koala, and panda bears. The kids even were able to bring in a stuffed bear or animal to class for the week. Mrs. Buder built a "bear lair" with boxes where the kids could go in and play. Today was the end of our bear week so last night they were to leave the bears at school for a bear sleepover. Mrs. Buder took pictures of the bears doing things in the classroom like eating snack, in the chinchilla cage, and on the computer. The kids loved seeing those pictures and had to write what their bear was doing. The kids were also able to see and feel how a polar bear survives in ice water. Mrs. Buder made something with shortening I think in a plastic bag and put another plastic bag in there so the kids hands would not get dirty and put the bag with their hand in it in ice water. The kids thought that was pretty neat. We ended the bear week with a bear tea party. We made bear biscuits by taking an uncooked biscuit and pulling apart 3 small pieces to make the ears and nose and added raisins for the eyes. We cooked them and they turned out pretty good. We also had teddy grahams and some iced tea. We put out some table cloths and blankets on the floor so the kids could sit on them for their tea party and put the iced tea in tea pots and a bottle of honey for their tea or biscuits. Oh it was super cute. Some parents even came in for the tea party.

Love having this opportunity to get ideas for when I become a teacher.

Husband Love

Mondays are so hard for me. After a couple days of sleeping in, I have to wake up at seven and have work at 8. I do really enjoy Monday afternoons though. Drew has Mondays off so I am not alone at home from 2-10.

Today was one of my best Mondays. I was able to take a nap with Drew and then when I woke up Drew had set up a little romantic bath for us complete with candles and a back massage. It is so great to just relax with your spouse and enjoy each others company.

Next for the evening is FHE and it is my turn for the lesson. Clearly I am working hard on it....blogging and all ;) I'll blog more later on the week. Maybe something will happen at school.

Kindergarten Days

These past couple of days have been something at school. The kids are so wild during lunch time.
Something happened today that I just couldn't believe. One of my little kindergarteners out at lunch recess said, "Where the hell is...." A kindergartener! I had to refocus her. A refocus is this purple paper that students have to fill out if they do something bad. It was my second refocus so far. Poor little girl, she was crying when I told her that I had to refocus her for saying that because we do not say that at school. I'm sure she heard it at home. Parents really need to watch their mouths. Kids repeat everything they hear.

Also, we got chinchillas for a class pet today. Super excited! Those things are so soft. I'm worried though because they like it to be quiet and well in a kindergarten class....I'm sure you can only imagine.
